Doe wanted to move her kitchen to free up space in the main living area, and also to make a direct connection from it to her garden.

The extension of what was the larder became the answer to her requirement.

She also wanted as much light as possible into the room coupled with the use of rough unfinished materials as a contrast to polished concrete and the brushed stainless steel above the kitchen surface.
